I majored in mathematics as an undergraduate at State University of New York at Buffalo, receiving a B.A. and have successfully completed all of the course requirements for a master’s.
Experience
I have owned tutorial services in both New York City and Atlanta spanning more than twenty years and have compiled notebooks of common errors that students make, which I now put to good use in study guides, books and tutorial videos. It has been a privilege to personally help hundreds of students to achieve their academic dreams and to improve their standardized test scores...some of whom have recognized me on the street years later and hugged me. I specialize in tutoring math for improving and maintaining grades from elementary school through college and improved scores on standardized tests. I have taught students as young as age 8, as old as 70 and many college students in between, all require a lot of patience. I don’t believe in doing a student’s work for him/her but lead them by asking questions, so that they learn how to ask the appropriate questions that will help them to solve their problems. My focus is on helping the student to fully understand the underlying concepts as opposed to just blindly following a procedure. Once the student understands, it becomes much easier to reason out solutions to problems. I have senior master ranking and have been teaching martial arts since 1995. Though I have taught students as young as 3, my preference is age 8 through adult, with a special emphasis on senior citizens. Mostly, I have been teaching a martial art system called Choi Kwang Do, but began making modifications in 2005 to develop Kwang Tao. Though Kwang Tao has its roots in Japanese Shotokan and Korean Tae Kwon Do, its movements are very smooth and natural, applying kinesiology to maximize power. Kwang Tao is very effective for self-defense on the street, but is also a great way to lose weight, improve muscle tone and get into shape. Most of the last six years have been spent in Germany, as the senior instructor and content developer at a new school called Pil Sung Black Belt Academy, in Andernach. I am available for tutoring in the afternoons and evenings. Also, contact me if you need late-night (9PM until 1AM) or emergency (NEED HELP NOW!) help before a test (but that will cost a bit more).
